Organisation¶
This topic area scales biology up from cells to whole organisms. It covers how tissues and organs work together, with enzymes, circulation and plant transport as the main examples.
Core Role¶
- Show how structure and function connect across tissues, organs and organ systems.
- Link digestion, blood transport and plant transport into one organised view of the body.
- Reinforce that effective biological systems depend on specialised parts working together.
Topic Pages¶
- Principles of Organisation: Organisation shows how biology scales up from individual cells to whole organisms. The key idea is hierarchy: cells form tissues, tissues form organs, and organs work together in organ systems.
- Animal Tissues, Organs and Organ Systems: This topic explains how organ systems keep animal cells supplied with oxygen, nutrients and waste removal. Digestion and circulation are the main examples, with disease showing what happens when systems fail.
- Plant Tissues, Organs and Systems: Plant organisation uses the same cell-to-tissue-to-organ pattern as animals, but the transport problems are different. Plants must move water, minerals and sugars without a pump like a heart.
