Infection and Response¶
This topic area studies disease, defence and treatment. The central pattern is that pathogens enter, organisms respond, and medical strategies aim to reduce harm or prevent spread.
Core Role¶
- Explain how pathogens cause disease and how they spread.
- Show how defence systems, vaccination and medicines reduce disease impact.
- Connect human and plant disease through the shared ideas of detection, response and control.
Topic Pages¶
- Communicable Diseases: Communicable disease is about transmission, defence and treatment. The important pattern is that pathogens enter a host, multiply, and trigger both natural and medical responses.
- Monoclonal Antibodies: Monoclonal antibodies are useful because one cloned cell line makes one type of antibody, so every molecule binds to the same target. This makes them powerful tools for testing, imaging and treatment.
- Plant Disease: Plant disease is easier to understand when you treat a plant as a living system facing pathogens, pests and nutrient problems. The challenge is to recognise the cause and then explain the response.
